The Working Woman's Wardrobe

As a woman with a full time career I’ve found it’s most important to utilize a select group of well made, staple items when getting ready in the morning. These items allow me to have a basis to start with to then add trendier, fun pieces to finish off a look. (Much like the image above - sourced from Collage Vintage ) Her staple cropped pants and great winter jacket work seamlessly with her bright sweater and trendy shoes to keep her looking polished and professional. Above and below are some of the items I love to keep on hand in my closet. From classic stilettos to a well made pencil skirt they are items that every closet should have.

Check below for some of my favorite picks!

What To Wear: Navy Blue Skirt

Today we have our intern Carly sharing some style tips for wearing a navy blue skirt this fall. And coincidentally I just picked up this DVF navy lace skirt and this Theory navy pencil skirt at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. Both skirts will be great pieces to wear in the fall and winter months and they are a nice change from the typical black skirts I would ordinarily choose.

As August arrives it is officially time to start looking ahead to fall. This means time to head to the storage closet and dust off your autumn pieces. It also means deciding what you can take with you into the next season and what summer looks should remain in summer. One item that can most definitely make the shift into fall is the navy blue skirt. All summer long it has been combined ever so perfectly with a white tank top and a pair of block heels.

Now it is time to take this incredible staple and make it ready for the fall. It is such a versatile piece because of the deep and rich color yet often times a lightweight fabric, so it can truly be worn so many ways. In order to recreate the look above all you need to do is get out your go-to white tank top, a pair of neutral color block heels, your favorite round sunglasses and your nude tote. This look is so simple and chic. It is such an effortlessly stylish ensemble and the best part about it is that all you have to do to take this look into fall is pick your favorite lightweight sweater to layer over your tank top. There isn’t much more to it just add a layer and you are all set for the new season!---Carly

What I Wore: TV Style Segment

Reiss pleated midi skirt {similar} | Banana Republic Shoes {sold out} | Maati kisslock clutch | J.Crew silk cami

Yesterday's outfit for Let's Talk Live was inspired by my recent post on How To Wear A Pleated Skirt and also by my friend Briana. Doesn't she look amazing in this photo?

And if you haven't already-check out the fabulous home and fashion items at Maati.  Maati was founded in Los Angeles, California and brings the roots of Indian culture and ethnicity on the global platform. I love the clutches, scarves, and home decor. This tote would be perfect for a vacation getaway.

What To Wear: Summer Concert

The summer is the perfect opportunity to take time and enjoy the little things. Whether you are heading to the National Portrait Gallery sculpture garden to catch jazz in the park or you spending a night at the 9:30 club to take in a show, you want to look great. For summer concerts it is crucial to strike the balance between stylish and low-key. You want to create a look that is somewhat formal, depending on your venue, but nonetheless effortlessly chic. Above all you are going out to enjoy yourself and enjoy a show, so you want your ensemble to be conducive to a relaxing and enjoyable time.

A perfect way to go about dressing for a summer concert is to choose a bold pair of tailored shorts and pair them with a casual tank top, a fitted blazer and then finish the look off with a statement ankle strap shoe. This combination is great because the tailored pieces create a more formal feel, while the bold print and casual top strike a balance of fancy and comfortable. If you want a more relaxed feel to your ensemble opt for a pair of strappy sandals, however if you want to create a more formal look choose an ankle strap heel to add some elevation. Top off your look with a few pops of gold from your favorite bangles and then grab your favorite slouchy leather clutch for a look that will ensure a comfortable and chic night out to any venue.- Carly

What To Wear: Pleated Skirt

One of the trends I have recently noticed in street style is the pleated skirt. I love the way the folds billow in the breeze and the lightweight fabric is perfect for summer, especially if you are opting for a tea length or maxi skirt. It is also an incredible addition to your wardrobe if you are looking for more conservative yet sophisticated and on trend look. The great part about the pleated skirt is it's versatility. You can choose from all different lengths and pick one that caters to your body type, height or any specific occasion.

Furthermore, this is a piece that can effortlessly transition from day to night by swapping out accessories. Add a shoulder bag for the daytime with low-key makeup and then swap it out for a statement cultch and a bold lipstick. The core of this look is very classic and simple, therefore the way you accessorize it dictates how fancy or low-key the ensemble becomes.

I have seen this look done a number of ways and the one that resonates most with me is the combination of a simple button-down or light grey sweater with the pleated skirt, lace up sandals and a structured bag. This simple collection of pieces is an effortless recipe for a chic look. It is the perfect ensemble for a running around in style, without overheating in the sun. --Carly
