Reader Request: What To Wear To A Reunion

Stephanie, a loyal STYLE'N reader, contacted me because she is attending a reunion this weekend and is looking for styling options for this amazing dress she just purchased. It was hard to narrow it down but here are a few styling options I put together on polyvore.  The dress is so versatile and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.  Stephanie can make the outfit casual by adding a pair of flat sandals and a cute tote or even belt the dress and wear it as a long tunic with jean leggings and a pair of flats. She can even dress it up again with a pair of nude or black heels for a dinner date out with her husband.

Reader Request: A few questions....

Update-Voting is now closed. Thanks to all of you who voted. I truly appreciate all your multiple votes and enthusiasm the past few weeks. And a special thanks to Kristin over at Bon Bon Rose Girls for her support as well.

First and foremost a big thank you to all of you who have been voting for me over at circle of moms. Right now I am in the Top 25 for Moms with Style but that could all change quickly because today is the last day of voting and the competition for the Top 25 spots is getting really competitive.

Being in the Top 25 would not only be a great Mother's Day and birthday gift but I also started my blog one year ago in May and earning a spot in the Top 25 would be such an amazing milestone and accomplishment. Also my friends Kristin and Megan over at Bon Bon Rose Girls need your votes too. Please vote for me HERE and Kristin and Megan HERE And please help spread the word on Twitter and Facebook if you can.

Kacie and her sister, both Style'N readers,  emailed me requesting some additional details on a few of my previous blog posts.  I thought I would take the opportunity to address their questions on today's post.

1. Could you provide the link to the peach mango mimosa's and spinach and mushroom quiche recipes you talked about on April13th?I am planning on doing a recipe post on the spinach, mushroom, and onion quiche sometime in May or June so stay tuned. But I can tell you it's my aunt's recipe and it's super easy to make and it's delicious. In the meantime if you want the recipe feel free to email me directly and I would be happy to send it to you.

And the peach mango mimosa's are really easy to make. I just added this peach mango juice to some champagne...that's it! Oh threw in a raspberry in each glass to make the drinks look pretty.

2. Which food mixer do you have - it is photographed in your Valentines Cookies blog piece from Feb 7th.

I use this Kitchen Aid Architect 6 speed hand mixer but I have been baking way more this past year and I would love to get a professional stand up mixer soon.

3. Where are the beautiful glasses from that you serve your smoothies in - the tall and the smaller ones?

The smaller cocktail glasses are from Crate and Barrel. I got them a couple of years ago and unfortunately I don't see them on the Crate and Barrel website. I got the taller etched glasses more recently and they are from West Elm. I bought the tall tumblers and the wine glasses. And I use these wine glasses for yogurt parfaits and desserts.

4. We were curious to know which the orange cook book you had was was - its in the photo where you have the Gpaltrow, Flour and Giada's cookbooks in a pile from April 7.

The cookbook is Vij's Indian Cuisine and it's available at Amazon. Vij's restaurant is an extremely well known and popular restaurant in Vancouver and we always eat there when we are in town.  My husband and I both really enjoy making recipes from this cookbook.

5. Where is your ring from in the photograph of you holding your daughters hand, December 17 2010

It is a David Yurman albion ring and Aneesh got it for me as a gift when Ariyana was born 3 years ago.

Reader Request: Casual Chic

How are you all doing today? Unfortunately I have a cold and am feeling a bit under the weather this week.  And after all the eating out I did the past few weeks I was just starting to eat healthy and get back into a gym routine.  Hopefully I will feel better and get back to the gym in a couple of days.

Anyway, I love it when my reader's email me and ask me style questions because it means I get to be their personal stylist (which I love!) Maria asked me for a recommendation for a casual chic outfit to wear on a Sunday afternoon to meet her friend's fiance for the first time. They are meeting in the afternoon at a waterfront restaurant and her friend's fiance is quite stylish so Maria wants to look chic and stylish as well. When I came across this image on the Internet as completely inspired. I thinking pairing up a pleated skirt with a leather jacket and colorful flats is casual, edgy, and comfortable.

Reader Request: What to Wear With Tall High Heel Boots

Occasionally I get emails from style'n readers who are looking for style advice and I am always so humbled and inspired by these requests. Sirena, a personal trainer and health and nutrition blogger (The Naked Dish), contacted me because she bought these new high heel tall brown boots and wanted some ideas about what to wear with them. Below are some of the style tips I suggested to Sirena and since she lives here in Boston I thought it would be nice to meet up and take a picture of the outfit we styled. I like high heel boots (here) and if they are worn right they elongate the legs and give a sleek and sexy look.

Style'n tips: What to wear with tall high heel boots

1. Skinny Jeans, especially a dark wash or black ones. I love the look paired with a belted cardigan or a billowy silk blouse.

2. Short skirts including mini's and knee length. I like to make sure the skirt length is shorter than the top of the boot so you can see the boots. For some people 1 inch above the boot works, and for others they look best when the skirt just hits above the boot. Also, skirts that stop 3-4 inches above the boot work well.

3. Long skirts, full or narrow, that cover the top of the boot.

4. Casual everyday long and short dresses. Follow the same basic principles with short and long skirts.

5. A high heel pointy-toed high heel boot with business suits gives a professional and classy look. (but do not tuck pants in the boots for this look!)

What do you wear with your high heeled boots?

Reader Request: Creating an Evening Look With a Black Skirt

I received a request from a style'n reader who asked me to help her style an outfit using this skirt from Anthropologie.  She also wants to pair the skirt with black sparkly tights.

For a glamorous evening look I recommend pairing the skirt with blouses that are satin or silk.  Also tops with billowy sleeves and ruffles are other ways to dress up the skirt.  Even incorporating sequins,  florals, animal prints, lace, and crochet would work well.

And since we are on the topic of skirts, I think having at least one basic yet high quality black skirt is a wardrobe essential. It is versatile and can be styled so many ways.  A black skirt can be worn with a button down shirt for work, casual T-shirts and flats on the weekends, and a blouse and heels in the evening.

Here are a few blouses that would work well with this skirt.

My husband and I went out to dinner Saturday night with some friends so I thought it would be fun to style a black skirt with some sparkly gold tights. Even though this skirt is different from the Anthropologie skirt,  I think both skirts can be styled with similar types of blouses, shoes, and accessories.   I decided to add a flowy black blouse to give the outfit a monochromatic look and I added color with the necklace, clutch, and shoes. Here's a couple of quick pictures we took before heading out to dinner.
